Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

In the assessment of magnesium neodecanoate, read-across to the assessment entities soluble magnesium substances and neodecanoic acid is applied since the ions of magnesium neodecanoate determine its fate and toxicity in the environment. Magnesium is essential for microorganisms and is therefore added to the synthetic sewage feed according to the “activated sludge respiration inhibition test (OECD 209, 2010). Effects on activated sludge endogenous respiration were not observed by Liu and Wang (2012) up to the highest magnesium concentration tested (NOEC ≥ 500 mg Mg/L, measured). In addition, an inhibition of nitrification was not observed at the highest test concentration of neodecanoic acid resulting in a NOEC ≥ 200 mg/L. Thus, magnesium neodecanoate has a low potential for toxicity to microorganisms.
