Details on test solutions:
PREPARATION AND APPLICATION OF TEST SOLUTION (especially for difficult test substances)
- Method: A solution containing 102.4 mg/L in dilution water was prepared.
- Controls: dilution water only

Test organisms

Test organisms (species):
Daphnia magna
Details on test organisms:
TEST ORGANISM
- Common name: water flea
- Age at study initiation (mean and range, SD): 0 - 18 h
- Method of breeding: similar to the method described in the OECD guideline: vessels: preserving glasses (nominal volume 2 L), medium: M4-Medium (recipe of ELENDT), food: green algae (Desmodesmus subspicatus), medium renewal: twice a week, photo period: 16/8 hours (using neon tubes), temperature 20 ± 2 °C
- Source: Umweltbundesamt Berlin (27. September 2007)

METHOD FOR PREPARATION AND COLLECTION OF EARLY INSTARS OR OTHER LIFE STAGES, INCLUDING CULTURING CONDITIONS:
19 hours before the start of the test, the adult animals were separated from the young. 1 hour before test start, adults were caught with the help of a glass tube, and the newborn daphnia, aged between 0 and 18 hours, were sieved from the medium and immediately placed into a beaker containing dilution water. After the settling-in period, animals which showed no apparent damage were used for the test

TEST MEDIUM / WATER PARAMETERS
- Source/preparation of dilution water: ISO test water according to OECD 202
- Culture medium different from test medium: yes, switching from M4-medium (husbandry) to ISO test water has been shown not to cause any detrimental effects for test daphnia.
- Intervals of water quality measurement: pH and dissolved oxygen (0, 48 h)

OTHER TEST CONDITIONS
- Adjustment of pH: no
- Photoperiod: 16:8 h light:dark

EFFECT PARAMETERS MEASURED (with observation intervals if applicable) : immobilised daphnia (24, 48 h)
Reference substance (positive control):
yes
Remarks:
Potassium dichromate (K2Cr2O7)
