Description of key information

The key study was an algal growth inhibition assay, determining the effects of the substance on Selenastrum capricornutum (also known as Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata), conducted in accordance with an established guideline.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC50 for freshwater algae:
26.9 µg/L
EC10 or NOEC for freshwater algae:
3.2 µg/L

Additional information

The substance was shown to exhibit toxicity to algae; the 72-h ErC50 of 26.9 µg/L was based on the growth rate endpoint; this value was used in the representative value for the trophic level when compared to the short-term toxicity values in freshwater fish and freshwater aquatic invertebrates in the development of PNECs. The reported 72-h EC50 for area under the growth curve was 9.3 µg/L. The 72-h NOEC for both endpoints was reported as 3.2 µg/L.
