Registration Dossier

Data platform availability banner - registered substances factsheets

Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Administrative data

First-aid measures

Inhalation

- In case of accident by inhalation: remove casualty to fresh air and keep at rest.

- Oxygen or artificial respiration if needed.

- Consult a physician.

Eye contact

- Flush eyes with running water for several minutes, while keeping the eyelids wide open.

- If eye irritation persists, consult a specialist.

Skin contact

- Take off contaminated clothing and shoes immediately.

- Wash off with soap and water.

- Wash contaminated clothing before re-use.

- If symptoms persist, call a physician.

Ingestion

- Consult a physician.

If victim is conscious:

- Clean mouth with water and drink afterwards plenty of water.

- If the subject presents nervous, respiratory or cardiovascular disorders: administer oxygen.

If victim is unconscious but breathing:

- Artificial respiration and/or oxygen may be necessary.

Fire-fighting measures

Suitable extinguishing media

- powder

- Foam, AFFF

- Carbon dioxide (CO2)

Extinguishing media which shall not be used for safety reasons

- Never use water.

Special exposure hazards in a fire

- Combustible material

- Vapours are heavier than air and may spread along floors.

- Risk of ignition.

- Vapours may form explosive mixtures with air.

Special protective equipment for fire-fighters

- In the event of fire, wear self-contained breathing apparatus.

- Fire fighters must wear fire resistant personnel protective equipment.

Other information

- Cool containers / tanks with water spray.

- Avoid propagating the fire when directing the extinguishing agent as a jet onto the surface of the burning liquid.

Accidental release measures

Personal precautions

- Refer to protective measures listed in sections "Handling and storage" and "Exposure controls/personal protection".

- Keep away from open flames, hot surfaces and sources of ignition.

- Keep away from incompatible products

Environmental precautions

- Do not flush into surface water or sanitary sewer system.

- If the product contaminates rivers and lakes or drains inform respective authorities.

Methods for cleaning up

- Dam up.

- Soak up with inert absorbent material (e.g. sand, silica gel, acid binder, universal binder, sawdust).

- Prevent product from entering drains.

- Pick up and transfer to properly labelled containers.

- Keep in suitable, closed containers for disposal.

- Treat recovered material as described in the section "Disposal considerations".

Handling and storage

Handling

- Use only in well-ventilated areas.

- Keep away from sources of ignition - No smoking.

- Keep away from incompatible products

Storage

- Keep only in the original container.

- Keep container closed.

- Keep in a well-ventilated place.

- Keep away from heat.

- Keep away from incompatible products

- Keep in a bunded area.

Other information

- Ensure all equipment is electrically grounded before beginning transfer operations.

- Heat, flames and sparks.

- Do not smoke.

- Keep away from open flames, hot surfaces and sources of ignition.

- Take measures to prevent the build up of electrostatic charge.

- To avoid thermal decomposition, do not overheat.

Exposure controls / personal protection

Occupational exposure controls

Respiratory protection

- Provide appropriate containment or exhaust ventilation

- For specific tasks with a potential for exposure, face mask with type A cartridge should be used

Hand protection

- Wear suitable gloves.

Eye protection

- If splashes could occur, wear a face shield

Skin and body protection

- Skin contact should be prevented by all means

- Wear suitable protective clothing.

Hygiene measures

- When using do not eat, drink or smoke.

- Handle in accordance with good industrial hygiene and safety practice.

- Prevent contamination of surfaces

Additional remarks related with worker exposure:

Based on modeling and monitoring data which are available, the inhalation exposure of workers is less than 0.1 ppm for manufacturing and intermediate use. This confirms that the risk management measures are adequate to assure strictly controlled conditions.

Additional remarks related with environmental exposure:

tertiary-Amylbenzene is used as an intermediate in closed systems. There is no effluent which contains tertiary-amylbenzene but there are some solid and liquid waste streams containing tertiary-amylbenzene. These waste streams are shipped off site and they are treated as chemical waste by an external company (burned at high temperature). Air emissions are significantly reduced by active carbon filtration. This confirms that the risk management measures are adequate to assure strictly controlled conditions.

Stability and reactivity

Stability

- Stable under recommended storage conditions.

- Vapours are heavier than air and may spread along floors.

Conditions to avoid

- Heat.

- Heat, flames and sparks.

Materials to avoid

- Oxidizing agents

Hazardous decomposition products

- Carbon monoxide

Disposal considerations

Waste from residues / unused products

- In accordance with local and national regulations.

- Must be incinerated in a suitable incineration plant holding a permit delivered by the competent authorities.

Packaging treatment

- Must be incinerated in a suitable incineration plant holding a permit delivered by the competent authorities.

- Hazardous waste

- or

- Rinse the empty containers with a low volatility hydrocarbon and treat the effluent in the same way as waste.

- To avoid treatments, as far as possible, use dedicated containers.
