First-aid measures

Description of first aid measures

General advice: Call a physician immediately.

If inhaled: IF INHALED: Remove to fresh air and keep at rest in a position comfortable for breathing. If breathing is irregular or stopped, administer artificial respiration. Call a physician immediately. In case of lung irritation, first treatment with dexametason aerosol (spray).

In case of skin contact: Wash off with plenty of water. Call a physician immediately.

In case of eye contact: In case of eye contact, remove contact lens and rinse immediately with plenty of water, also under the eyelids, for at least 15 minutes. Call a physician immediately.

If swallowed: Clean mouth with water and drink afterwards plenty of water. Do not induce vomiting. Call a physician immediately.

Notes to physician:

Hazards: Inhaled corrosive substances can lead to a toxic oedema of the lungs.

Symptoms: Irritation and corrosion, lachrymation, cough, blistering.

Fire-fighting measures

Extinguishing media:

Suitable extinguishing media: The product itself does not burn. Use extinguishing measures that are appropriate to local circumstances and the surrounding environment.

Special hazards arising from the substance or mixture:

Special exposure hazards arising from the substance or preparation itself, its combustion products, or released gases: In case of fire hazardous decomposition products may be produced such as: Gaseous hydrogen chloride (HCl), Sulphur oxides, Chlorine.

Advice for firefighters:

Special protective equipment for firefighting: Personal protection through wearing a tightly closed chemical protection suit and a self-contained breathing apparatus.

Additional information on firefighting: Collect contaminated fire extinguishing water separately. This must not be discharged into drains. Fire residues and contaminated fire extinguishing water must be disposed of in accordance with local regulations.

Accidental release measures

Personal precautions, protective equipment and emergency procedures:

Personal precautions: Keep people away from and upwind of spill/leak. Personal protection through wearing a tightly closed chemical protection suit and a self-contained breathing apparatus.

Environmental precautions:

Environmental precautions: Prevent spreading over a wide area (e.g. by containment or oil barriers). Suppress (knock down) gases/vapours/mists with a water spray jet. Do not flush into surface water or sanitary sewer system.

Methods and material for containment and cleaning up: Contain spillage, and then collect with non-combustible absorbent material, (e.g. sand, earth, diatomaceous earth, vermiculite) and place in container for disposal according to local / national regulations (see section "Disposal considerations"). Residues neutralize with lime milk or soda and flush with plenty of water.

Handling and storage

This substance is handled under Strictly Controlled Conditions in accordance with REACH regulation Article 17(3) for on-site isolated intermediates and, in case the substance is transported to other sites for further processing, the substance should be handled at these sites under the Strictly Controlled Conditions as specified in REACH regulation Article 18(4). Site documentation to support safe handling arrangements including the selection of engineering, administrative and personal protective equipment controls in accordance with risk-based management systems is available at each Manufacturing site. Written confirmation of application of Strictly Controlled Conditions has been received from every affected Distributor and Downstream Manufacturer/User of the Registrant's intermediate.

Precautions for safe handling:

Advice on safe handling: Container may be opened only under exhaust ventilation hood. Open drum carefully as content may be under pressure. In case of insufficient ventilation, wear suitable respiratory equipment. Protect from moisture.

Conditions for safe storage, including any incompatibilities:

Storage space and container requirements: Keep in an area equipped with acid resistant flooring. Keep containers tightly closed in a dry, cool and well-ventilated place.

  VCI storage category: 8
