Justification for classification or non-classification

No carcinogenic potential is assumed for this test substance. Therefore no classification according to 1272/2008/EC (CLP) criteria is required.

Additional information

The in vitro genotoxicity data in combination with the abscence of structural alerts did not reveal any reason of concern regarding carcinogenicity of the test substance. Therefore and with respect to animal welfare aspects and/or laws, an additional study is not warranted.

In addition, information of carcinogenicity is given from Oxo Alcohols C9 to C13 in the OECD SIDS initial assessment report for SIAM 22 Oxo Alcohol C9 to C13 (18. - 21.04.2006). 2-Propylheptan-1-ol belongs also to the group of branched alcohols. Therefore, this information can be assigned for 2-Propylheptan-1-ol.

Based on the negative genotoxicity data, members of the Oxo Alcohol C9 to C13 Category are expected to have a low potential for carcinogenicity. Therefore, it is assumed that also 2-Propylheptan-1-ol has a low potential for carcinogenicity.
