Principles of method if other than guideline:
The applied method following Pensky-Martens is normally used for flash points above 40°C only. But with external cooling of the test item in the test vessel to 5°C, the instrument was able to measure down to 5°C. Temperatures below 5°C could not be tested because of the properties of the test item: The high viscosity prevented the stirrer from diving into the test item and the measurement could not be started. The method following Abel-Pensky was not applicable as stirring was not possible due to the high viscosity of the test item.
