Endpoint:
partition coefficient
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Study period:
03 May 2018 - 05 June 2018
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
guideline study
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
OECD Guideline 117 (Partition Coefficient (n-octanol / water), HPLC Method)

no
Qualifier:
according to guideline

Specific details on test material used for the study:
- Batch: D05/38
- Expiration date: 30 August 2021
- Purity: 97.36%
- Storage condition of test material: Room temperature in the dark
Analytical method:
high-performance liquid chromatography
Type:
log Pow
Partition coefficient:
< 1
Temp.:
20 °C
pH:

Details on results:
Standard conditions assumed.
- Results: The test item eluted at approximately the same time as the dead time standard and was seen as a partially resolved peak just next to the deadtime standard peak. As there was no retention using these HPLC conditions, it was concluded that although the method was not strictly applicable to the test item, the partition coefficient of the compound is less than that of the earliest eluting standard assessed (acetanilide) with a log10Pow value less than 1.0.
Conclusions:
The log n-octanol/water partition coefficient (Log Kow) for potassium 12-hydroxystearate is <1.
Executive summary:

The partition coefficient of potassium 12-hydroxystearate was determined in a GLP-compliant study following OECD guideline 117. The log n-octanol/water partition coefficient (log Kow) of potassium 12-hydroxystearate is <1.

The test item is surface active, as established from consideration of the chemical structure and as shown by direct measurement of the property. By definition of the test methods, the experimental determination of the partition coefficient is not applicable to surface active materials; however, an attempt was made to assess the property by the HPLC method since often the retention time of a material can provide a good indication of the partition coefficient.

Description of key information

The log n-octanol/water partition coefficient (Log Kow) of potassium 12-hydroxystearate is <1.

Additional information

The partition coefficient of potassium 12-hydroxystearate was determined in a GLP-compliant study following OECD guideline 117 (Agrochemex 2018).
