Conclusion on classification

Short-term toxicity tests for Daphnia and algae are available for the substance. In addition, one reliable EC10 value for algae is available for long-term toxicity. The EC50 values for algae and Daphnia are between 1 and 10 mg/l, whereas the lowest EC10 value is 2.0 mg/L for algae. As one reliable long-term toxicity endpoint is available classification needs to be derived on both the acute and chronic data and the most stringent outcome should be taken. The substance is not readily biodegradable and based on the available chronic data for algae it would not lead to classification. For the chronic classification based on acute data the other trophic levels need to be taken into account. Based on the only other available acute data for Daphnia with an EC50 value of 2.5 mg/L, its non readily biodegradability and a log Kow value of 3.8,  the substance needs to be classified as H411. It can be concluded that Sec Butyl Quinoline is classified as R51/53 according to Directive 67/548/EEC (DSD) and H411 according to Regulation 1272/2008/EC (CLP).
