This study was performed to assess the acute toxicity (LC50) of reaction mass of sodium 4-hydroxybenzenesulfonate and disodium 4-hydroxybenzene-1,3-disulfonate and sodium sulfate (EC: 939-154-7) to common carp, Cyprinus carpio.
Based on the result of the preliminary range-finding study, twenty fish were divided into two groups of ten fish each. The study was conducted as a limit study in which a group of fish was exposed to a limit concentration of 100.0 mg test item/L along with a control.
No mortality was observed over a period of 96 h and did not exhibit any treatment related behavioral response at 0.0 (control) and 100.0 mg test item/L.
The stability of test item in test media was performed during the method validation (JRF Study N° 228-2-13-32634), and test item in test media was stable up to 96 h (>80% of the nominal concentration). Test media was analysed for test item active ingredient concentration and stability at 0 and 96 h during the limit study. The active ingredient concentration of test item in test media was within the acceptable limit (>80% of the nominal concentration).
The study indicates that test item exposure caused no toxic effect in Common carp, Cyprinus carpio. The 96 h LC50 of test item was greater than 100.0 mg/L.
