Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

In a study conducted according to guidelines (EU Method C.3; OECD Guideline 201) the 72 h NOEC and EC50 based on growth rate and yield of Desmodesmus subspicatus were determined to be 100 and >100 mg/L L-tryptophan nominal (corresponding to a geometric mean measured concentration of 84.8 and >84.8 mg/L), respectively.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC10 or NOEC for freshwater algae:
100 mg/L

Additional information

The toxicity of L-tryptophan to Desmodesmus subspicatus was investigated in a study conducted according to EU Method C.3 (Algal Inhibition test; 2008) and OECD Guideline 201 (Alga, Growth Inhibition Test; 2006). Cultures of Desmodesmus subspicatus were exposed to a nominal concentration of 100 mg/L (limit test) in a static test for 72 h. The 72 h NOEC and EC50 based on growth rate and yield were determined to be 100 and >100 mg/L nominal (corresponding to a geometric mean measured concentration of 84.8 and >84.8 mg/L), respectively.
