Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Endpoint:
water solubility
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Study period:
03 September 2009 - 09 November 2009
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
other: Study conducted to internationally accepted guidelines and to GLP.
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
EU Method A.6 (Water Solubility)
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
OECD Guideline 105 (Water Solubility)
GLP compliance:
yes (incl. QA statement)
Type of method:
other: turbidity
Water solubility:
1.1 mg/L
Temp.:
25 °C
pH:
> 6 - < 7.2
Remarks on result:
other: Temperature was assumed to be 25°C however, this was not specified.
Details on results:
The water solubility of Softanol 30 was determined by turbidimetry to be 1.1 mg/l (mean of 1.2 and 1.0 mg/l).

A solubility of approximately 10 to 100 mg/l was estimated. Subsequent method development work indicated that the test substance dispersed readily in water and that this estimation may have been falsely high (as the dispersion of the relatively small amount of test substance in the large volume of water may have indicated dissolution). Given this observation, and the likelihood that this would preclude separation of undissolved material, it was considered that turbidimetric determination of solubility would be the best approach

Conclusions:
Interpretation of results (migrated information): slightly soluble (0.1-100 mg/L)
The water solubility of Softanol 30 was determined by turbidimetry to be 1.1 mg/l. Temperature was assumed to be 25°C however, this was not specified.

Description of key information

Water solubility of Softanol 30 was determined by turbidimetry to be 1.1 mg/L (mean of 1.2 and 1.0 mg/L).

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Water solubility:
1.1 mg/L
at the temperature of:
25 °C

Additional information

A solubility of approximately 10 to 100 mg/l was estimated. Subsequent method development work indicated that the test substance dispersed readily in water and that this estimation may have been falsely high (as the dispersion of the relatively small amount of test substance in the large volume of water may have indicated dissolution). Given this observation, and the likelihood that this would preclude separation of undissolved material, it was considered that turbidimetric determination of solubility would be the best approach.

The temperature at which the solubility test was carried out is assumed to be 25°C, although this was not specifically stated in the report.
