Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

The test substance is with high probability acutely not harmful to aquatic organisms.

The inhibition of the degradation activity of activated sludge is not anticipated when introduced in appropriate low concentrations.

A test on the acute toxicity of the test substance to fish is not available. Alternatively, the acute toxicity was examined with the corresponding calcium salt of the test substance (CAS 65212-77-3) in a GLP guideline study according to OECD 203 with the test species Brachydanio rerio [BASF AG 2000]. At test termination after 96 hours a LC50 of 681.2 mg/L (nominal) was determined.

A test on the acute toxicity of the test substance to aquatic invertebrates is not available. Alternatively, the acute toxicity was examined with the corresponding calcium salt of the test substance (CAS 65212-77-3) in a GLP compliant guideline study according to OECD 202 with the test species Daphnia magna in a static test system set-up [BASF SE 2012]. A saturated solution of the test substance prepared at a loading concentration of 100 mg/L had no observable effect on Daphnia magna in the test media and under test conditions. Thus, an EC50 > 12.2 mg/L (measured) after the 48 hour exposure period could be determined.

A test on the acute toxicity of the test substance to aquatic plants is not available. Alternatively, the acute toxicity was examined with the corresponding calcium salt of the test substance (CAS 65212-77-3) in a GLP compliant guideline study according to OECD 221 with the test species Lemna gibba [BASF SE, 2012]. At test termination after 7 d, an EC50 > 320 mg/L (nominal) relating to growth rate was determined.

The changes in the respiration rate of activated sludge in the prescence of the test substance was investigated in a GLP guideline study according to OECD 209 [BASF AG 2002]. The respiration rate was not affected after the 30 minute exposure period up to a substance concentration of 1000 mg/L (nominal).

The hazard assessment of the substance reveals neither a need to classify the substance as dangerous to the environment, nor is it a PBT or vPvB substance, nor are there any further indications that the substance may be hazardous to the environment. Therefore, and for reasons of animal welfare long-term toxicity testing in fish and aquatic invertebrates is not provided.
