Applicant's summary and conclusion

Validity criteria fulfilled:
yes
Conclusions:
For the growth rate no effective concentration (ErC) was calculated, since the inhibition of tbis test parameter did not
exceed 16 % in the present study. The calculated EbC50 was slightly above the solubility limit under the test conditions.
Executive summary:

The acute toxicity of Hydroxypropyltesto to algae (Selenastrum capricornutum) was tested in the growth

inhibition test according to the OECD guideline No. 201.

Since the test item is almost insoluble in water the test was carried out with a saturated solution of the test item and four lower level dilutions. For the toxicity test the algae were exposed to a concentration range of 5.9 mg/l to 30.1 mg/l (concentration of saturation) for 72 hours.

The concentration of the test item in saturated solution was checked by DOC analysis (Dissolved Organie Carbon) at test start.

The saturated solution of the test item, diluted by the inoculum only, with a concentration of 30.1 mg/l caused 47 per cent inhibition of cell growth and 16 per cent inhibition of growth rate.

The growth inhibition test resulted in the following toxicity values. For the growth rate no effective concentration (ErC) was calculated, since the inhibition of tbis test parameter did not exceed 16 % in the present study. The calculated EbC50 was slightly above the solubility limit under the test conditions.

Toxicity values after 72 hours:

EbC20 (0-72 h): 20.2 mg/l

EbC50 (0-72 h): 31.5 mg/l

NOEC: 13.4 mg/l
