First-aid measures
Description of first aid measures
General advice: Call a physician immediately.
If inhaled: IF INHALED: If breathing is difficult, remove to fresh air and keep at rest in a position comfortable for breathing. If breathing is irregular or stopped, administer artificial respiration. If breathing is labored, administer oxygen. Call a physician immediately.
In case of skin contact: Wash off with plenty of water. Take off contaminated clothing and shoes immediately. Call a physician immediately.
In case of eye contact: In case of eye contact, remove contact lens and rinse immediately with plenty of water, also under the eyelids, for at least 15 minutes. Call a physician immediately.
If swallowed: Clean mouth with water and drink afterwards plenty of water. Do not induce vomiting. Call a physician immediately.
Notes to physician:
Hazards: Inhaled corrosive substances can lead to a toxic oedema of the lungs. Can be absorbed through skin. Causes burns.
Symptoms: Cough, lung oedema, lachrymation.
Treatment: In case of lung irritation, first treatment with dexametason aerosol (spray). Treat symptomatically.
Fire-fighting measures
Extinguishing media
Suitable extinguishing media: Carbon dioxide (CO2), dry powder, foam, water spray
Extinguishing media which must not be used for safety reasons: Do not use a solid water stream as it may scatter and spread fire.
Special hazards arising from the substance or mixture
Special exposure hazards arising from the substance or preparation itself, its combustion products, or released gases: Reacts violently with water. Fire may cause evolution of: Hydrogen chloride gas, Carbon oxides.
Advice for firefighters
Special protective equipment for firefighting: Personal protection through wearing a tightly closed chemical protection suit and a self-contained breathing apparatus.
Accidental release measures
Personal precautions, protective equipment and emergency procedures
Personal precautions. Keep people away from and upwind of spill/leak. Use personal protective equipment. Wear respiratory protection. Avoid contact with skin, eyes and clothing.
Environmental precautions
Environmental precautions: Prevent spreading over a wide area (e.g. by containment or oil barriers). Knock down dust with water spray jet. Do not flush into surface water or sanitary sewer system.
Methods and material for containment and cleaning up
Methods for cleaning up: Allow to solidify, use mechanical handling equipment. After cleaning, flush away traces with water. Retain and dispose of contaminated wash water.
Handling and storage
This substance is handled under strictly controlled conditions in accordance with REACH Article 17 (3) for on- site isolated intermediates and, in case the substance is transported to other sites for further processing, the substance should be handled at these sites under the strictly controlled conditions as specified in REACH regulation Article 18 (4). Site documentation to support safe handling arrangements including the selection of engineering, administrative and personal protective equipment controls in accordance with risk-based management systems is available at each Manufacturing site.
Written confirmation of application of strictly controlled conditions has been received from every affected Distributor and Downstream Manufacturer/User of the Registrant's intermediate.
Precautions for safe handling
Advice on safe handling: Refill and handle product only in closed system. Protect from moisture. Avoid formation of dust and aerosols. Do not breathe dust. Wear respiratory protection. Avoid contact with skin, eyes and clothing. May react violently with water.
Advice on protection against fire and explosion: Keep away from sources of ignition - No smoking. Normal measures for preventive fire protection. Use water spray to cool unopened containers.
Conditions for safe storage, including any incompatibilities
Storage space and container requirements: Keep in an area equipped with acid resistant flooring. Keep containers tightly closed in a dry, cool and well-ventilated place. Use only with adequate ventilation and in closed systems.
