Guidance on Safe Use
Administrative data
First-aid measures
Symptoms : No acute effects (see chapter 11 for long-term effects).
General information: Take the victim out of the contaminated area. Remove contaminated clothing immediately and dispose of safely.
Inhalation: Make the victim breathe fresh air. Make the victim blow his nose. Seek medical advice.
Skin contact: Rinse immediately with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes. Seek medical advice.
Eye contact: Rinse immediately with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes. Seek medical advice.
Ingestion: Do NOT induce vomiting. Make the victim rinse his mouth with water. Seek medical advice.
Fire-fighting measures
Suitable extinguishing media: All means (e.g. water, carbon dioxide, dry chemical extinguisher).
Extinguishing media that must not be used for safety reasons: Strong water jet.
Specific hazards: In case of fire, the product may emit toxic and/or irritating fumes. Supposed thermal decomposition/oxidation: Carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide; Sulphurous oxides (SOx)
Protection during intervention: Use self-contained breathing apparatus. Wear full protective suit.
Further information: Use extinguishing measures that are appropriate to local circumstances and the surrounding environment. Avoid rejection of extinguishing water in the environment.
Accidental release measures
Personal precautions: Particle full face respirator or powered air purifying respirator. Suitable gloves. Dedicated work clothes.
Environmental precautions: Avoid spreading of product.
Methods for cleaning up/taking up: Sweep and shovel the solid product in a container adapted for its recovery or destroying (avoiding dust formation). Close and label rigorously.
Cleaning of contaminated zone: After taking up the product, rinse the polluted area with water.
Elimination of recovered materials: Deliver to Environmental service of the factory or to any specialized and approved disposal service.
Further information: Evacuation of area and intervention of special services recommended. Intervention of special services recommended.
Handling and storage
Sensitivity: No particular observation
Handling
Advice on safe handling (workshop): Local ventilation and emission point dust extraction. Take precautionnary measures against electrostatic loading. Earth vessels and equipment well.
Advice on safe handling (laboratory): Handling in a hood recommended.
Storage
Storage requirements: Keep in a cool, well-ventilated place.
Storage temperature: Keep at ambient temperature.
Incompatible materials: Keep away from chemicals as it is a pharmaceutical substance.
Packaging material advised: Cardboard/metal box, inner polyethylene sack.
Standard packaging: Iron.
Further information on storage conditions: Keep in well closed container, away from light.

Exposure controls / personal protection
Threshold limit values and hazard class
List of exposure limits: OEL (Sanofi-aventis): 60 µg/m3 (preliminary)
Protective equipment and measures
(IMPORTANT: to be adapted following the workplace risk assessment.)
General protective measures: Pregnant women, seek medical advice before handling. In case of pre-existing ocular and/or cutaneous lesions, seek medical advice before handling.
Laboratory
Respiratory protection: Handling in a hood.
Hand protection: Suitable gloves.
Eye protection: Safety glasses.
Body protection: Working clothes.
Hygiene measures: Wash hands.
Workshop
Respiratory protection: Particle full face mask or powered-air purifying respirator.
Hand protection: Suitable gloves.
Glove material : Nitrile rubber
Layer thickness : 0,11 mm
Permeation time : > 480 min
The protective gloves to be used must comply with the specifications of EC directive 89/686/EEC and standard EN374
Eye protection: See respiratory protection.
Body protection: Work clothes.
Hygiene measures: Wash hands.
Stability and reactivity
Stability: High decomposition energy (between 351 and 500 J/g). Risk of dust explosion.
Hazardous reactions: None to our knowledge.
Hazardous decomposition products: Supposed thermal decomposition/oxidation: Carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide. Sulphurous oxides (SOx)
Disposal considerations
Product residue: Deliver to the Environmental service of the factory or to any specialized and approved disposal service.
Uncleaned packaging: Deliver to the Environmental service of the factory or to any specialized and approved disposal service. Recycling possible after cleaning.
