Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Most sensitive long term toxicity data for 3 different amphibians are summarised in the EU-RAR (2008). According to these data, the effect concentrations for Trinickel dicitrate were calculated:
Xenopus laevis: EC10 (4d) = 0.266 mg Trinickel dicitrate/L (malformation)
Gastrophryne carolensis: EC10 (7d) = 0.567 mg Trinickel dicitrate/L (malformation)
Bufo terrestris: NOEC (7d) = 2.014 mg Trinickel dicitrate/L (growth)

Additional information

Accepted data on chronic single-species toxicity tests resulting in high quality NOEC/L(E)C10 values (expressed as Ni) for amphibians (n = 17) are summarised in Table 3.2.1-7 of the EU-RAR, 2008 .

Chronic data for 3 different amphibians were extracted and used in the effects assessment. The NOEC/L(E)C10 values for the amphibians range from 84.5 μg Ni/L (0.266 mg Trinickel dicitrate/L) to 13,147 μg Ni/L (41.373 mg Trinickel dicitrate/L) for Xenopus laevis. The data for Xenopus laevis were shown in detail in the key study record in chap 6.1.8, further results for the other amphibians were only shown in the attached document of the mentioned key study record.

Remark:

[citric acid, nickel salt] is present on the surface of an inert carrier material (aluminium oxide). Depending on the pH value to prepare the impregnation solution or present while impregnation different molar ratios between nickel and citric acid are possible.

For this reason the concentrations of the single Nickel constituents of [citric acid, nickel salt] are various. The calculated values refer to the constituent Trinickel dicitrate and have to seen as a lower threshold value.
