Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

In the US EPA review, a large dataset of aquatic bioaccumulation studies has been investigated; BCF values in this dataset ranged from 0.048 to 1,390. Even if As can be bioconcentrated in aquatic organisms, biomagnification in aquatic food chains does not appear to be significant.

Additional information

Arsenic acid (AA) is an inorganic compound of arsenic (As) for which a large number of studies addressing the bioaccumulation by various aquatic species are available in the literature. Thus, the study on bioaccumulation of the substance in fish is scientifically unjustified. Further details are provided in the endpoint summary 5.3. A weight of evidence approach is proposed to cover the aquatic bioaccumulation information requirement.

As bioaccumulation depends on various factors including the environmental setting (marine, estuarine, freshwater), the type of aquatic organism, the exposure concentration and duration.
