Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Transformation/dissolution of the pigment under the described test criteria is below 0.5%.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

Transformation/dissolution of copper chromite black spinel was measured according to the method OECD test series No. 29 (Guidance document on transformation/dissolution of metals and metal compounds in aqueous media). The transformation/dissolution ofthe pigmentresulted in the following dissolved concentrations:

28d-full test at 1 mg/L, and

pH 6: 3.4 ± 0.3 µg Cu/L, >0.5 <1 µg Cr/L

pH 8: 1.9 ± 0.3 µg Cu/L, >0.5 <1 µg Cr/L

As dissolved Cu and Cr concentrations were below 5 µg/L at the highest loading of 1 mg/L, referring to a solubility of < 0.5 %, the pigment can be considered environmentally inert.
