Administrative data
First-aid measures
Inhalation: Remove to fresh air. If not breathing, give artificial respiration. Get medical attention immediately.
Ingestion: Aspiration hazard. If swallowed, DO NOT INDUCE VOMITING. Give large quantities of water (0,5 l minimum). Never give anything by mouth to an unconscious person. Get medical attention immediately.
Skin Contact: Immediately remove contaminated clothing and shoes and flush skin with plenty of water. Get medical attention. Wash clothing before reuse. Thoroughly clean shoes before reuse.
Eye Contact: Immediately flush eyes with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes, lifting lower and upper eyelids occasionally. Get medical attention immediately.
Fire-fighting measures
Combustible liquid and vapor (VbF: AIII).
Explosion: Above the flash point (76°C), explosive and hazardous vapor-air mixtures may be formed ( release of carbon monoxide).
Fire Extinguishing Media: Water spray, alcohol resistant foams, dry chemical A-B-C-D-E, dry chemical B-C-E or carbon dioxide. .
Information for fire-fighters: self-contained breathing apparatus, full protective clothing (Hazchem. Code: 3X) and .
Accidental release measures
Measures for workers protection: Respiratory, eye protection and protection of unprotected body parts. Wear specified personal protective equipment as described below.
Control concentration measurement of Diethyloxate in the working place, ventilation.
Measures for environmental protection: Prevent contamination of surface water and groundwater and soil.
Recommended method for containment and cleaning up: pour lime milk when reaction occurs non-toxic calcium oxalate and ethyl alcohol.
Handling and storage
Diethyl oxalate shall be supplied in steel barrels. Upon agreement, it can be supplied in tank trucks. During filling ventilation is provided.
The barrels shall be attested for the packing group III (code designation “X“, “Y“ or “Z“) and they shall not be filled more than to 94 % of the capacity.
Storage: Keep container tightly closed in a dry and well-ventilated place. Store away from foodstuffs and strong oxidising agents.
Use as internediate only under strictly controlled conditions according to Art.18(4) of Regulation (EC) No.1907/2006.

Exposure controls / personal protection
1. Technical protection measures
A system of local and/or general exhaust ventilation is necessary to keep employee exposures as low as possible. Local exhaust ventilation is generally preferred because it can control the emissions of the contaminant at its source, preventing dispersion into the general work area.
2. Organisational protection measures
Airborne Exposure Limits: EU - not established (Czech republic: NPK-P is 1 mg.m-3)
Control concentration measurement of Diethyloxate in the working place.
Hygiene measures: Handle in accordance with good occupational hygiene and safety procedures. When using, do not eat, drink or smoke. After work wash skin as soon as possible with soap and water.
3. Hand protection
Wear chemically resistant gloves in combination with specific activity training. The selected protective gloves have to satisfy the specifications according to the standard EN 374 (based on the EU Directive 89/686/EEC).
4. Body protection
Wear protective clothing, including boots, gloves, lab coat, apron or coveralls, as appropriate, to prevent skin contact as much as possible.
5. Eye protection
Use chemical safety goggles and/or a full face shield where splashing is possible.
Maintain eye wash fountain and quick-drench facilities in work area.
6. Respiratory protection
Wear a respirator conforming to EN140 with Type A/P2 filter or better.
For processes identificated within Exposure assessment wear a full face respirator conforming to EN140 with Type A/P2 filter or better .
Stability and reactivity
Stability: Stable under normal conditions of use and storage. Vapours may form explosive air mixture.
Chemical Stability: Moisture sensitive. Decomposes in water.
Hazardous Decomposition Products: Carbon monoxide may form when heated to decomposition.
Incompatibilities: Substance reacts violently with strong oxidizing agents.
Disposal considerations
Methods of removing the substance: Incineration by hazardous waste incinerator in accordance with the official regulations.
Large amount detox by reaction with lime milk (for 1 kg dietyloxalate use 0.5 kg of CaO)
Disposal of contaminated packaging: washing with lime milk followed by disposal of residue in accordance with the official regulations.
