Additional information

Three genetic toxicity tests were performed under GLP conditions on Sodium hypophosphite, the parent compound of the phosphinic acid. All the 3 tests gave negative results:

- reverse mutation in bacteria (OECD guideline 471 and the EU Method B13/14)

- chromosome aberrations in cultured human lymphocytes (OECD guideline 473 and the EU Method B.10)

- mutations in L5178Y TK+/- mouse lymphoma (OECD guideline 476 and EU method B.17).


Endpoint Conclusion: No adverse effect observed (negative)

Justification for classification or non-classification

According to regulation 67-548 EEC and CLP regulation(EC) N° 1272/2008, Phosphinic acid is not classified as mutagenic.
