Additional information

In accordance with column 2 of REACH Annex VIII, an adsorption/desorption study does not need to be conducted since isobutyl acetate has a low potential for adsorption due to a low octanol-water partition coefficient (log Kow = 2.3; OXEA, 2009). The adsorption coefficient (log Koc) was estimated to be less than 3 (log Koc = 1.2; Koc = 15.6) using the MCI method of KOCWIN v2.00 program. The estimated Koc indicates that adsorption to soil and suspended sediment is not expected.

The Henry's Law constant (HLC) of isobutyl acetate was estimated to be 41.6 Pa*m³/mol at 25 °C. An experimentally determined value cited in the experimental database of EPI Suite v4.00 is almost identical (46 Pa*m³/mol; Deno & Kerkheimer, 1960).

Therefore, slow volatilization is expected.

Taking the experimental Henry's Law constant of 46 Pa*m³/mol, volatilization half-lives of 2.5 and 118 hours were estimated by EPIWIN v4.00 for a model river and a model lake, respectively (ECT, 2009).
