Description of key information

Aluminium Zirconium Chloride Hydroxide is typically produced and placed on the market in the EU in solution form (ca. 27 -51% aqueous solutions). Such solutions are colorless to slightly yellow and odorless. The sole use of this substance is the production of wet/moist cosmetic formulations (e. g. for antiperspirant sticks, roll-ons and creams). Some amounts of Aluminium Zirconium Chloride Hydroxide are imported into the EU in powder form (usually within mixtures). Powders are generated by spray drying the solutions to reduce weight during transport. After receipt at the user, powders are turned into solutions or slurries for the use mentioned above. In consequence, the most relevant route of exposure for workers (and the general population) is via skin contact.
Nevertheless, for product stewardship reasons and to address certain REACH data requirements, a spray dried powder of pure Aluminium Zirconium Chloride Hydroxide has been prepared. Such a product is not commercially available. The powder sample was used for testing for boiling and melting point, relative density, particle size distribution and dust generation tendency (dustiness).
