Description of key information

There are no tests on chronic toxicity to fish available, however the chemical safety assessment indicates no need to investigate further the effects on fish.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

In Annex IX of Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006, it is laid down that chronic toxicity tests shall be proposed by the registrant if the chemical safety assessment indicates the need to investigate further the effects on fish. Acute tests of Bis(hydroxylammonium)sulphate (BHAS) are available covering three trophic levels, showing that fish is least sensitive among the aquatic organisms tested. For D. magna, a reproduction test, performed according to OECD 211, revealed no effects of BHAS on reproduction up to 1 mg/l nominal concentration (0.616 mg/L, measured). In addition, BHAS is highly instable in water under environmental conditions (see chapter 5.1) and accidental releases into the environment would not result in accumulation or persistence. Therefore, and for reasons of animal welfare, a long-term toxicity study in fish is not provided.
