Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

- The partition coefficients (log Pow) of the major methanol soluble components of SCP liquor are <2.1. Substances with partition coefficients (log POW) >3 were not detected, but SCP liquor is known to contain different chemical classes such as resins etc. with partition coefficients higher than the described value. Therefore the method is of limited reliability for a UVCB substance such as SCP liquor.
- Column 2 of Annex VII (7.8) states that the study on partition coefficient does not need to be conducted if the substance is inorganic or if the test can not be performed (the substance is not possible to obtain a sufficiently pure substance).
- Given the numerous organic and inorganic constituents in SCP liquor, any assay used to estimate the partitioning properties would yield a range of values reflecting this complex mixture. In addition, there is no analytical method to do this test in a catch-all way.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

at the temperature of:
35 °C

Additional information

The partition coefficients were estimated by an adapted HPLC-method, using only the methanol soluble parts. The temperature during the procedure was 35 °C. The actual pH value of the mobile phase during the test was 7.0. The equation of the linear regression for the reference substances was: log (capacity factor) = 0.6385 x log (Pow) – 0.3552. Several unidentified compounds were found in the (log Pow) range of <0 to 2.1. The partition coefficients (log Pow) of the major methanol soluble components of SCP liquor 1 are < 2.1. Substances with partition coefficients (log Pow) >3 were not detected but SCP liquor is known to contain different chemical classes such as resins etc. with partition coefficients higher than the described value.
