Acute tests on all three trophic levels were performed to examine the aquatic toxicity of iso-butanol.

Daphnia turned out to be the most sensitive species revealing an EC50 (48h) of 1100 mg/L. Effects of iso-butanol towards fish, daphnia, and algae were found in the same range providing a LC50 (96h) of 1430 mg/L for fish and an EC50 (72h) of 1799 mg/L for algae, respectively.

Thus, iso-butanol is considered with high probability acutely not harmful to aquatic organisms. No adverse effects have been observed.

To determine the long-term toxicity, a study on the reproduction of Daphnia magna was performed. The calculated NOEC (21d) in this study was 20 mg/L [Kuehn & al., 1989]. No data on long-term toxicity on fish are available.
