Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

The acute toxicity of bentonite acid leached to algae was assessed (OECD TG 201). EC50 > 100 mg/L (based on eluate)

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

As bentonite acid leached is poorly water-soluble, an eluate of 125 mg/L was made by shaking suspending bentonite in water, shaking for 24h and filtration. The eluate was used for the test after dilution to a concentration of 100 mg/L by addition of nutrient salts and the algae inoculum.

After 72h no inhibition of growh rate and no decrease in cell number in the eluate was observed. It can therefore be concluded that the EC50 is >100 mg/L.
