EC number: 232-350-7 | CAS number: 8006-64-2 Any of the volatile predominately terpenic fractions or distillates resulting from the solvent extraction of, gum collection from, or pulping of softwoods. Composed primarily of the C10H16 terpene hydrocarbons: α-pinene, β-pinene, limonene, 3-carene, camphene. May contain other acyclic, monocyclic, or bicyclic terpenes, oxygenated terpenes, and anethole. Exact composition varies with refining methods and the age, location, and species of the softwood source.
No measured data are available for long-term toxicity of TOPP to fish. TOPP is a UVCB substance and a data-waiver is considered to be appropriate for this endpoint on the grounds that, in accordance with Section 1 of REACH Annex XI (EC 2006), the study does not need to be conducted because the needs associated with obtaining a sound understanding of long-term toxicity to fish are adequately met by the available data on constituents. Composition information has been used in conjunction with validated QSARs to derive No Observed Effect Concentrations (NOECs) for TOPP constituent blocks. Calculation of PNECs for the aquatic compartment will be based on the block NOECs rather than on data for the whole substance. Testing for long-term toxicity to fish will therefore not contribute to the database that is required to complete the assessment of the substance.
Dimethyl disulfide has a reported 28-d NOEC values of 0.47 and 0.93 mg/L based on effects to Cyprinodon variegatus and Pimephales promelas respectively.
