The total decomposition energy (Δ HDec determined between room temperature and 500 °C) was found to be about 293 J/g thus being far below the UN limit of 500 J/g. Two exothermic peaks have been found. The onset point of the first peak was at about 173 °C. Based on the chemical structure, FAT 40824/A is not to be classified as explosive material and no experimental determination according to the EC test guideline A.14 has to be performed. The presence of an azo group seems to pose no risk as demonstrated by the calorimetric test. The result of item 2 (oxygen balance) is not considered relevant for this substance as the substance is not adequately characterised by taking into account carbon, hydrogen and oxygen only and omitting nitrogen, sulphur and chlorine. Thus, it can be concluded beyond a reasonable doubt, that FAT 40824/A is not a potential explosive and does not have a potential for rapid energy release. Nevertheless, this judgement is in respect to classification; it does not necessarily mean that any processing hazards can be discounted.

The test substance has been considered to be non-explosive based on the expert statement, hence does not warrant classification according to the EU Classification, Labelling and Packaging of Substances and Mixtures (CLP) Regulation (EC) No. 1272/2008.
