Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

The 72-h ErC50 value is >15.8 m/L (nominal) in aquatic algae based on active ingredient. No ErC10 value of NOEC could be determined.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

The toxicity towards aquatic algae was determined in a study according to OECD guideline No 201 (no data on GLP status) (Novartis Services AG, 1998). In this limit test exponentially growing green algae were exposed to nominal test substance concentrations of 0 (control) and 100 mg/L for 72 hours. As the tested substance is a colourant, a colour control was included in the test. No further details on study design and test conditions are given. Test concentrations were not analytically verified. The algae were scored for cell density and the growth rate and growth rate inhibiton were calculated. At the end of the test, the total growth rate inhibition was 33.9%. In the colour control growth rate inhibition was 9.1%. Based on these findings, the 72-h ErC50 value is reported as >100 mg/L. As the purity of active ingredient in the tested substance is ca. 15.8%, the 72 -h LC50 value for the active ingredient is >15.8 mg/L (based on nominal concentration). Due to the study design no ErC10 value or NOEC could be determined.
