Description of key information

The test substance is with high probability not acutely harmful to fish. No acute toxic effects with the range of solubility.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

Carp (Cyprinus carpio) were exposed for 96 h to the test substance (CIBA-GEIGY 1977). The test was conducted according the procedure by Bathe et al. (1974). Due to the low solubility of the test item acetone was used as solubilizer. However, a precipitate was formed in all concentrations immediately after the introduction of the acetone suspended toxicant into the test water. Therefore, the exposure is regarded as worst-case since concentration above the solubility limit were tested. Nevertheless, since no toxic effects were observed after 96 h of exposure, it can be stated that no acute toxic effects occur within the range of solubility. And the LC50 is determined to be above 100 ppm (nominal) after 96 h. Therefore, the test substance is with high probability not acutely harmful to fish.
