Description of key information

TCD-emulsifier does not exhibit any adverse effects on Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC50 for freshwater algae:
100 mg/L
EC10 or NOEC for freshwater algae:
100 mg/L

Additional information

To investigate potential harmful effects of TCD emulsifier on aquatic algae or cyanobacteria, a growth inhibition test with Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata was performed according to OECD 201 and under GLP. The test was performed with five test concentrations between 26.0 and 100 mg/L. Both with regard to growth rate and yield, EC50 values of > 100 mg/L and NOEC values of ≥ 100 mg/L were determined. Growth curves of algae in the test and control vessels showed that the algal growth was slightly stimulated compared to the growth in the control in all five test concentrations. The morphology of the algal cells in the five test solutions as well as in the control showed no abnormalities.
