In different studies, trifluoroacetate (431-47-0) has been investigated for potential of skin sensitization to a greater or lesser extent. The studies are based on in vivo experiments in guinea pig for target chemical, trifluoroacetate (431-47-0)and its structurally similar read across substancesEthyl 3-ethoxypropionate (763-69-9)and Diethyl Malonate(105-53-3)the predicted data using the OECD QSAR toolbox has also been compared with the experimental data of read across.

The skin sensitization potential of methyl trifluoroacetate (431-47-0) was estimated by SSS (2017) using OECD QSAR toolbox v3.3 with log kow as the primary descriptor and considering the six closest read across substances methyl trifluoroacetate (431-47-0) was predicted to be not sensitizing to the skin of female guinea pig.

The experimental study conducted byInstitute for Arbeitsschutz der Deutschen Gesetzlichen Unfallversicherung (IFA) GESTIS-database on hazardous substance(IFA GESTIS, 2017)to evaluate the skin sensitizing potential of read across substanceEthyl 3-ethoxypropionate (763-69-9).The skin sensitization study of Ethyl 3-ethoxypropionate (763-69-9) was performed by Freund’s complete adjuvant test in 10guinea pigs. No skin sensitization reaction was noted. Hence it is considered that Ethyl 3-ethoxypropionate (763-69-9) was not skin sensitizing in guinea pig by Freund’s complete adjuvant test.

The experimental study conducted by D.L.J. Opdyke(Food and Cosmetics Toxicology. Vol. 13, Pg. 905, 1975)to evaluate the skin sensitizing potential of read across substance Diethyl Malonate(105-53-3). In skin sensitization study, 23 volunteers were tested by maximization test at a concentration of 4% in petrolatum. No reaction was observed therefore, the Diethyl Malonate(105-53-3) was considered to be not sensitizing to humans. 

Thus based on the above predictions ontrifluoroacetate (431-47-0) as well as its read across and applying weight of evidence, it can be concluded that trifluoroacetate (431-47-0) is not a skin sensitizer. Thus comparing the above studies with the criteria of CLP regulation, trifluoroacetate (431-47-0) can be considered as not classified for skin sensitization.
