Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Endpoint:
flammable solids
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Study period:
January from 26th to 30th, 2009
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
guideline study
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
EU Method A.10 (Flammability (Solids))
Deviations:
no
GLP compliance:
yes
Remarks:
temporary certificate
Key result
Test procedure:
burning rate test: preliminary screening test
Remarks on result:
substance does not ignite and propagate combustion either by burning with flame or smouldering along 200 mm of the powder train within the 2 minutes test period
Remarks:
The sample become dark when insisting with the flame. Keeping away the flame from the sample, only generation of smoke for at maximum 2 seconds was observed.

The test item became dark and compacted itself near the area of the flame application; distancing the burner, only production of smoke can be observed up to a maximum of 2 seconds.

Since no propagation of combustion was observed, no other test was performed.

Interpretation of results:
non flammable
Conclusions:
Non flammable.
Executive summary:

The test was conducted according to the EU method A.10. During the preliminary screening test no propagation of combustion was observed therefore, no other test was performed and the substance is considered as not flammable.

Description of key information

Non flammable

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Flammability:
non flammable

Justification for classification or non-classification

According to the CLP Regulation (EC 1272/2008), 2.7 section, flammable solids, powdered, granular or pasty substances or mixtures shall be classified as readily combustible solids when the time of burning of one or more of the test runs, performed in accordance with the test method described in Part III, sub-section 33.2.1, of the UN Recommendations on the Transport of Dangerous Goods, Manual of Tests and Criteria, is less than 45 seconds or the rate of burning is more than 2.2 mm/s.

In the flammability test performed the test item did not propagate burning of a 200 mm length of the strip in less than four minutes, therefore the substance resulted non flammable.

In conclusion, according to the CLP Regulation (EC 1272/2008), the substance does not meet the criteria to be classified as flammable.
