Endpoint:
water solubility
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Study period:
11 November 2015
Reliability:

Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
study well documented, meets generally accepted scientific principles, acceptable for assessment
Principles of method if other than guideline:
An excess amount of the test item was brought into contact with water. When saturation was achieved, the mass concentration of the test item in the aqueous solutions was determined by suitable analytical method.

Key result
Water solubility:
333.4 g/L
Temp.:
23 °C
Remarks on result:
other: No data on pH.
Details on results:
The water solubility of the test item was determined to be higher than 333.4 g/L at 22-24 ºC.

With the increasing the amount of the test item added, the viscosity of the solution agreally increased and the solubilisation time also increased accordingly. Due to the high water solubility and the high viscosity of the test tiem solutions in water, it was not possible to prepare solutions with an amount of the test item necessary to sature the initial water volume. The final amount of the test item was 22.0 g in 50 mL, corresponding to 305,6 g/kg at room temperature. Since the density of the solutions was found to be 1.091 g/mL (at room temperature with a hydrometer), the water solubility of the test item was determined to be 333.4 g/L. This value was confirmed analyzing the dry substance content of the final solution by a Moister Analyser at 110 ºC, obtaining an average value of 304.2 g/kg.

Conclusions:
The water solubility of the test item was determined to be higher than 333.4 g/L at 22-24 ºC.
Executive summary:

The water solubility of the test item was determined by bringing an excess amount of test item into contact with water in order to achieve its saturation concentration. 1 g of test item was added to 50 mL of demineralized water at room temperature (22 -24 ºC) until completely dissolved. The process was repeated and the solubility of test item observed. With the increasing of the test item in water, the viscosity of the solution increases. Due to the high solubility of the test item in water (i.e. a high viscosity solution), the saturation concentration could not be achieved. The final amount of test item was 22.0 g in 50 mL corresponding to 305.6 g/kg. Taking into account the density of 1.091 g/mL the water solubility of the test item was determined to be higher than 333.4 g/L at 22 -24 ºC. This value was confirmed by analysing the dry substance content of the final solution by a Moisture Analyser at 110 ºC. The average content was 304.2 g/kg.
