Description of key information

Determination of the surface tension of FAT 65088/A TE.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Surface tension:
63
in mN/m at 20°C and concentration in mg/L:
1 000

Additional information

The determination was carried out using a White Electrical Institute Co. Ltd. Model “OS” torsion balance for surface and interfacial tension measurements, using a procedure designed to be compatible with that specified in Method A5 Surface Tension of Commission Regulation (EC) No 440/2008 of 30 May 2008 and Method 115 of the OECD Guidelines for the Testing of Chemicals, 27 July 1995. The measuring body consisted of a 40.0±0.1 mm Platinum (Du Nouy) ring with a mean ring diameter of 12.74 mm.

The determination of the surface tension was accomplished by means of a tensiometer, using a procedure considered to be compatible with the ISO 304-1985 (E) ring method. The force which was required to withdraw a horizontally suspended ring from the surface of the solution was measuredConclusionThe surface tension of a 1.0 g/L solution of test item in water has been determined to be 63.0 ± 0.5 mN/m at 20.5 ± 0.5 °C. The test item was considered to be not surface-active.
