Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Reference
Endpoint:
melting point/freezing point
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
other: GLP Compliant, guideline study, available as unpublished report, acceptable with restrictions
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
OECD Guideline 102 (Melting point / Melting Range)
Deviations:
no
Guideline:
EU Method A.1 (Melting / Freezing Temperature)
GLP compliance:
yes (incl. QA statement)
Type of method:
other: Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) using the procedure specified in ASTM E537-86
Decomposition:
yes
Decomp. temp.:
50 °C
Remarks on result:
other: Decomposed from approximately 50°C, data indicated melting of decomposition product from approximately 170°C

The data also indicated melting of the decomposition product from approximately 170 °C.

Onset temperature approximated due to low rate of enthalpy change during decomposition. similar thermographic profiles obtained using air and nitrogen atmospheres indicating observed decomposition is probably thermal and not oxidative.

Authors state decomposition from approximately 50°C confirmed using modified liquid bath with capillary methodology, test item was observed to have become a darker yellow colour at 52°C, then slightly darker to dirty yellow colour at 57.5°C, a light brown colour at 70°C, slightly darker brown colour at 90.6°C and half brown half black colour at 109°C.

Conclusions:
Tetrakis(triphenylphosphine) Palladium decomposed from approximately 50 °C, however the data also indicated melting of the decomposition product from approximately 170°C
Executive summary:

This is a GLP compliant, guideline study which is considered suitable for use as the key study for this endpoint. Tetrakis(triphenylphosphine) Palladium decomposed from approximately 50 °C, however the data also indicated melting of the decomposition product from approximately 170°C

Description of key information

Tetrakis(triphenylphosphine)palladium decomposed from approximately 50 °C, however the data also indicated melting of the decomposition product from approximately 170°C.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Melting / freezing point at 101 325 Pa:
50 °C

Additional information

Walker and White (2011) is a GLP compliant study following OECD TG 102, which is considered suitable for use as the key study for this endpoint. Tetrakis(triphenylphosphine)palladium decomposed from approximately 50°C, however the data also indicated melting of the decomposition product from approximately 170°C.
