Guideline:
EU Method A.14 (Explosive properties)
Deviations:
yes
Remarks:
The apparatus for testing mechanical sensitivity (shock) was used without guide rails. This is considered as uncritical, as force is not dependant on guide rails. The deviation was signed and assessed by the study director on 27. Aug. 2010.

Applicant's summary and conclusion

Interpretation of results:
GHS criteria not met
Conclusions:
In the test for thermal sensitivity, sparks and flames were emitted from the orifice of the tubes. But no explosion was observed: the tubes remained unchanged during the reaction. In the tests for mechanical sensitivity, no reaction was observed. No signs of an explosive reaction could be observed in any of the tests. Therefore, the test item 5-Aminotetrazol Potassium is considered as “not explosive under the conditions of guideline EU A.14”.
The guideline does not cover the explosive properties of dust consisting of test item (resp. mixtures of dust and air). Therefore, the result is stated as “under the conditions of guideline EU A.14”
Executive summary:

The explosive properties of 5-Aminotetrazol Potassium were determined following EU A.14. In the test for thermal sensitivity, no explosion was observed. In the test for mechanical sensitivity (shock), no explosion was observed using a force of 40 J. In the test for mechanical sensitivity (friction), no explosion was observed using a weight of 360 N and a speed of 10 mm in 0.44 seconds. The test item 5-Aminotetrazol Potassium can be considered as: “not explosive under the conditions of guideline EU A.14”.
