Description of key information

According the Annex VII of REACH (Regulation EC No.1907/2008), the in vitro and in vivo studies for skin sensitisation do not need to be conducted if the substance is classified as skin corrosion.

At the time of the registration, no in vitro or in vivo data on skin sensitisation was available on the registered substance, so no new study has been performed.

The bibliographic search has showed that THFA could be associated with occuptational dermatitis in 5 humans in two publications (Munidasa 2012, Moffitt 2001).

The acrylates with low molecular weight are known to be skin sensitizers.

So based on the Weight of Evidence approach, a classification for skin sensitisation is proposed for THFA.

Justification for classification or non-classification

So based on the Weight of Evidence approach (lower acrylate are known to be skin sensitizer, some occupational cases associated with THFA), a classification for skin sensitisation is proposed for THFA : Skin Sens.1B (H317).
