Description of key information

The WHO concluded that cyclic acid anhydrides including Trimellitic anhydride (analogue to TMAC) can cause sensitization in Humans after direct contact with the skin and the mucous membranes or after exposure by inhalation.

In addition, Trimellitic anhydride is classified as Category 1 for Respiratory sensitization (H334: May cause allergy or asthma symptoms or breathing difficulties if inhaled") under the CLP regulation (listed as skin sensitizer H317 and respiratory sensitizer H334 in the Annex VI of the CLP regulation (EC) No 1272/2008.

By analogy, 4 -chloroformylphthalic anhydride is considered skin and respiratory sensitizer in the category 1.
