Description of key information

There is no data available for the substance manganese glucoheptonate on toxicity towards aquatic organisms and microorganisms. However, there is data available for the read-across substances sodium gluconate, gluconic acid, manganese dichloride, manganese sulfate and elemental managanese. The values for these source substances were converted to the registered substance under consideration of the molecular weight and the purity. This data is used within a frame of a weight-of-evidence approach to assess the toxicity of manganese glucoheptonate. The values calculated for manganese glucoheptonate, which were used for hazard assessment are presented in the following.

Fish

LC50 (96h): 37.34 mg/L for Oncorhynchus mykiss (test item: MnCl2) (WHO, 2004).

Invertebrates

EC50 (48h): 64.4 mg/L for Daphnia magna (test item: MnSO4 * 4H2O) (Khangarot and Ray, 1989).

Algae

EC50(14d): 24.11 mg/L for Selenastrum capricornutum (test item: MnCl2 * 4H2O) (Christensen et al., 1979).

Microorganisms

IC/EC50 (9h): 1633.5 mg/L for Tetrahymena pyriformis (test item: MnSO4 * H2O) (Bogaerts et al., 1998)
