Data on the toxicity of disodium tartrate to aquatic organisms are not available. However, reliable and adequate for assessment data were available for the analogues substance strontium tartrate (CAS 868-19-9). Details on the read across justification are provided in section 13 of the IUCLID dossier.

Data for the acute aquatic toxicity of the analogues substance strontium tartrate (CAS 868-19-9) are available for two trophic levels, i.e. aquatic invertebrates and unicellular freshwater microalgae while long term toxicity data are available only for algae. The EC50 values for both trophic levels were > 100 mg/L and the ErC10 (72 h) value for algae was likewise >= 100 mg/L (nominal).

Based on the results of the read across substance and since sodium is an essential element for life and ambient in water systems, the target substance disodium tartrate is not considered toxic to aquatic organisms.
