Description of key information

The aquatic toxicity of the Azo Initiator 2,2’-[azobis(1-methylethylidene)]bis[4,5-dihydro-1H-imidazole dihydrochloride is examined at three trophic levels in freshwaster species. The toxicity to fish is investigated in a semi-static 96 hours test according to OECD guideline 203 exposing Rainbow Trout. In a limit test with 100 mg/L no effects were observed. In an OECD guideline 202 study the effects on Daphnia magna. Based on the findings an effect concentration EC50 (48 h) of 87.1 mg test item/L is determined. Finally, the growth inhibition o Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata was investigated in an OECD 201 study. Following effect concentration are calculated: ErC50(72 h) 13.5 mg/L and ErC10(72 h) < 0.762 mg/L.

The available information on the aquatic toxicity indicate that algae are the most sensitive species for short-term effects of the Azo Initiator 2,2’-[azobis(1-methylethylidene)]bis[4,5-dihydro-1H-imidazole dihydrochloride.
