Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Conclusion on classification

Classification relevant information:

Degradation:

Biodegradation: not readily biodegradable (25% after 28 d and 34% after 60 d, OECD 301F)

Hydrolysis: half-life: < 2 min (EU method C.7) based on read across from CAS 18379-25-4

Aquatic acute toxicity

Fish: no data available

Aquatic invertebrates:

·       EL50 (48 h) = 8.84 mg/L (nominal loading rate, OECD 202, Daphnia magna)

Algae/aquatic plant:

·       ErL50 (72 h) = 89.9 mg/L (nominal loading rate, Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata, OECD 201)

Aquatic chronic toxicity:

Fish: no data available

Aquatic invertebrates: no data available

Algae/aquatic plant:

·      ErL10 (72 h) = 26.1 mg/L (nominal loading rate, Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata, OECD 201)

Classification according to CLP

Chloro(dimethyl)octylsilane (CAS 18162-84-0) hydrolyses vigorously to (dimethyl)octylsilanol and hydrochloric acid. The silanol hydrolysis product is not considered rapidly degradable. Acute toxicity data are available for two trophic levels (aquatic invertebrates and algae) while chronic aquatic toxicity data are available only for algae. The most sensitive trophic level were aquatic invertebrates with an EL50 value of 8.84 mg/L (nominal loading rate). Since adequate chronic toxicity data are not available, the lowest EL50 is between 1 and 10 mg/L and the substance is not readily biodegradale, Chloro(dimethyl)octylsilane (CAS 18162-84-0) is classified as Aquatic Chronic 2 according to the consolidated version of Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008 and further amendments (ATPs).
