Data platform availability banner - registered substances factsheets

Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

First-aid measures

Description of first aid measures

Skin- and eye contact could be relevant routes of exposure. Ingestion is considered (s. below) although it is hardly probable with normal handling. Inhalation can be excluded.

Skin contact is not associated with delayed effects after exposure if the substance is rinsed off with plenty of water shortly after. Subsequent skin care is recommended.

In case of contact with eyes rinse thoroughly with water. Eye irritation need not occur inevitably. Consult a doctor, however, if eye irritation persists. In case of ingestion rinse out mouth and give plenty of water to drink. Summon a doctor. In general, ensure supply of fresh air. Remove and dispose of contaminated, soaked clothing immediately.

Most important symptoms and effects, both acute and delayed

In general, particular acute or delayed effects are not expected. Eye contact may result in acute eye irritation.

Indication of any immediate medical attention and special treatment needed

After ingestion rinse out mouth and give plenty of water to drink. Summon a doctor. Otherwise, no special treatments are required. Go ahead as described above.

Fire-fighting measures

Extinguishing media

Suitable extinguishing media: foam, dry powder, carbon dioxide

Unsuitable extinguishing media: none

Special hazards arising from the substance

In the event of fire ammonia as well as oxides of sulphur and nitrogen may be produced.

Advice for firefighters

- Do not inhale combustion gases.

- Use breathing apparatus (large spills).

Accidental release measures

Personal precautions, protective equipment and emergency procedures

Use personal protective clothing especially to prevent contamination of the eyes (wear eye protection, protective gloves)

Keep people away and stay on the upwind side. Evacuation normally is not necessary but depends on the specific situation with additional dangers (e.g. fire).

Environmental precautions

Keep away from drains, surface and ground water. Do not discharge product itself or washing water into drains.

Methods and material for containment and cleaning up

Pick up with absorbent material (e.g. sand, sawdust) and collect in suitable containers (HDPE, stainless steel) for subsequent disposal.

Reference to other sections of the safety data sheet

Observe precautionary measures described in sections 7 and 8 of the safety data sheet (Handling and storage / Exposure controls/personal protection)

Handling and storage

Precautions for safe handling

No special measures necessary when used properly.

Containers should not be left open.

General hygiene measures:

- do not eat, drink and smoke in work areas

- wash hands after use

- remove contaminated clothing and protective equipment before entering eating areas.

Conditions for safe storage, including any incompatibilities

Keep container tightly closed. In long time storage (> 6 months) keep at temperature not exceeding 25°C. On long hauls and with long time storage protect against sun exposure and overheating as loss of water may appear. Do not store together with foodstuffs.

Specific end use(s) Avoid loss of water when manufacturing ointments (or similar products). Therefore, do not leave open container or do not heat openly for a long time in order to enhance flowability. Cleaning measures (container, equipment) can be taken by means of water (substance is water soluble). Collect washing waters as normal wastewater as appropriate.

Exposure controls / personal protection

Control parameters

There are no applicable occupational exposure limits. There is no need to carry out risk management measures.

Exposure controls

There is no need to consider any special technical measures and procedures. Protective gear/individual protection measures: Hand protection: suitable gloves Eye protection: safety glasses

Stability and reactivity

Reactivity

Not reactive under normal handling conditions.

Chemical stability

Under normal ambient and anticipated storage and handling conditions of temperature and pressure the substance is stable.

Possibility of hazardous reactions

Combustion results in formation of sulphur dioxide. However, combustion does not take place readily under normal handling conditions.

Conditions to avoid

Do not expose to high temperatures.

Incompatible materials

Precipitations occur with polyvalent cations and strong acids, respectively.

Hazardous decomposition products

Under normal handling conditions no decomposition takes place. Combustion results in formation of sulphur dioxide.

Disposal considerations

Waste treatment methods The disposal agency must be consulted for suitable treatment (e.g. incineration). Containers with residual amounts of substance in it should be disposed of as harmful contaminated packaging. Cleaned packaging (containers) can be recycled. Recommended cleaning agent: water. Waste waters from cleaning are collected and disposed of in agreement with appropriate authorities.
