Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Read-across to the assessment entities soluble zinc substances and toluic acid is applied for the assessment of zinc toluate since the ions of zinc toluate determine its fate and toxicity in the environment. Reliable data available for soluble zinc substances and toluate indicate that the moiety of ecotoloxicological concern are zinc cations.Regarding the toxicity of zinc to freshwater algae, the lowest IC50 value amounts to 0.136 mg Zn/L and the lowest NOEC/EC10 values to 0.019 mg Zn/L and 0.0078 mg Zn/L for freshwater algae and marine algae, respectively. For m-toluic acid, the 72-h EC50 for growth inhibition of algae amounts to 18 mg/L with a corresponding NOEC of 10 mg/L.
