Data platform availability banner - registered substances factsheets

Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

First-aid measures

Contact with skin:

Wash skin immediately with plenty of water. Remove contaminated clothing. If irritation persists after washing, seek medical aid.

Contact with eyes

Wash eyes immediately with plenty of water for at least 10 minutes, keeping the eyelids open.

Seek immediate advice from an ophthalmologist

Inhalation

Remove the affected person from the danger zone, placing him at the most comfortable possible position and protect him from cold. If breathing is laboured or the patient is cyanotic, give him oxygen through a facemask.

In case of irritation of the respiratory tract or unwellness, seek immediate medical advice.

Ingestion

If the affected person is conscious, make him drink 2 glasses of water or milk and induce vomiting. Then orally administer 2 effervescent calcium tablets (400 mg. of calcium per tablet) dissolved in water. Seek immediate medical advice.

Fire-fighting measures

EXTINGUISHING MEDIA

Dry chemical powder.

BCF (where regulations permit).

Carbon dioxide.

FIRE FIGHTING

Alert Fire Brigade and tell them location and nature of hazard.

Wear full body protective clothing with breathing apparatus.

Prevent, by any means available, spillage from entering drains or water course.

Use fire fighting procedures suitable for surrounding area.

When any large container (including road and rail tankers) is involved in a fire,

consider evacuation by 800 metres in all directions.

GENERAL FIRE HAZARDS/HAZARDOUS COMBUSTIBLE PRODUCTS

Non combustible.

Not considered a significant fire risk, however containers may burn.

Above 200º C, with the release of NaF, BF3 and HF..

May emit corrosive fumes.

FIRE INCOMPATIBILITY

None known.

Avoid contact with oxidizing agents and acids.

Accidental release measures

Personal precautions, protective equipment and emergency procedures

Wear protective clothing (see section 8). Provide good ventilation.

Keep away from heat sources.

Do not allow entry to the dumping area to people without the means of personal protection.

Environmental precautions

Recover as much product as possible to the production cycle. Prevent contamination of soil, water and drainage.

Handling and storage

PROCEDURE FOR HANDLING

Avoid inhalation and contact with the product. Open and handle containers carefully, avoiding the spillage and dust formation. Provide good ventilation. Containers that have been partially used must be re-sealed after use and return to the store.

Empty containers may contain residues and should therefore be handled as if full.

STORAGE REQUIREMENTS

Storage should be located in a dry and well ventilated place that should also be adapted to lay up toxic products, away from heat sources and incompatible products. Store the product in hermetically sealed original containers. Do not store near products intended for human or animal consumption.

In Spain, storage must comply with the R.D. 379/2001 (Regulation for the storage of chemical products) if stored above 250 Kg.

Plasticized paper containers, plastic bags, plastic fibre drums, plastic drums or plastic IBC can be used as packaging materials.

Exposure controls / personal protection

a) Eye / face protection

Well-fitted chemical protective goggles, type motorist or diver.

It is generally known that contact lenses must not be wear when working with chemicals because they may contribute to the severeness of possible damages in the eyes.

b) Skin protection

In normal conditions, light protective clothing (overall) with long sleeves, and rubber or neoprene boots.

Additionally, and for emergencies, there should have a particle-proof suit, EPI category 3, type 5, with self-contained breathing equipment.

c) Hand protection

Rubber or neoprene gloves.

d) Respiratory protection

Corresponding to the exposure levels, use the adequate breathing equipment to those levels. The adequate breathing equipment, all of them EPI category 3, which could be self-filtering masks type FFP3, filters with half- face mask type P3, filters with full facemask type P3, aid-ventilation with hood type THP3, aid-ventilation with full face-mask type TMP3.

Stability and reactivity

The reaction with strong mineral acids generates HF.

Moisture: The product must be kept dry.

With strong minerals acids produces SiF4 and HF.

Disposal considerations

Waste treatment methods

Use as much quantity of product as possible in the production cycle.

The product packed in dry sealed vessels should be given to an authorized waste agent in order he manage its elimination that will probably be done by means of a physicochemical treatment and later settlement in a controlled chemical waist weir.

Treatment of containers

Vessels, before their elimination or settlement, must be dust-removed with caution.

Once almost clean, eliminate them by their settlement in an authorized waste weir or in any case by burning at a legally authorized plant.

Non-contaminated packaging will be treated as if inert residues or as recyclable material.
