First-aid measures

Emergency measure - Inhalation: Seek immediate medical attention.  If inhaled, remove to

fresh air.  If not breathing, give artifical respiration. If

breathing is difficult, give oxygen.

Emergency measure - Eyes: In case of contact, immediately flush eyes with plenty of

water for at least 15 minutes.  Seek medical attention

immediately if irritation persists.

Emergency measure - Skin: Wash with soap and water.  Seek medical attention if

irritation develops and persists.

Emergency measure - Ingestion: Seek medical attention if symptoms appear.  Do NOT induce

vomiting unless directed to do so by medical personnel.

Never give anything by mouth to an unconscious person.

Fire-fighting measures

Recommended extinguishing agent: Carbon dioxide or water.

Product arising from burning: Oxides of carbon and nitrogen.

Accidental release measures

Emergency measures in case of spillage: Spilled material can be scooped up and placed in

polypropylene bags prior to disposal.  Personnel involved in

the clean up should wear protective suits.

Handling and storage

Handling: Workers should wear an airline hood, chemical gloves and

sleevelets all of which are plant standard.

Storage: Temperature 16-20°C.  Light, normal ambient.

Packaging of the substance and or preparation: Flexible intermediate bulk container with a polypropylene

interior which can hold up to 810lb.  The monoaldehyde is

pre-subdivided into batches of 466kg.
