Applicant's summary and conclusion

Executive summary:

At preliminary test (Tier I), the percent hydrolysis of 2,2’-[ethylenebis(oxymethylene)] bisoxirane were 100% at pH 4.0 7.0 and 9.0, respectively, indicating that test item was unstable item at each buffer solution. Therefore, Tier II phase was conducted at three different pH conditions.

At hydrolysis test (Tier II), the values of half-life (t1/2) for 2,2’[ethylenebis(oxymethylene)] bisoxirane were 19.8, 8.7 and 0.4 days at 15, 25 and 50˚С for pH 4.0, respectively. For pH 7.0, the corresponding values were 33.0, 14.1 and 0.6 days, respectively. And for pH 9.0, the corresponding values were 57.8, 21.7 and 1.0 days, respectively. The values of half-life (t1/2) calculated using Arrhenius equation were 8.9, 14.3 and 23.7 days at 20˚С for pH 4.0, 7.0 and 9.0, respectively.

Based on these results, 2,2’-[ethylenebis(oxymethylene)] bisoxirane was considered hydrolytically unstable at pH 4.0, 7.0 and 9.0.
