Description of key information

There are 2 studies dealing with the kinetics of barbital sodium. Both have no sufficient reliability.

The toxicokinetic investigations revealed:

- The transfer of sodium barbital from the mother to the embryo takes place within the first fifteen minutes after the injection. The concentration of the barbiturate may reach a fairly high level in the fetus. The placenta presents no barrier to the passage of barbital into the embryo.

- The averages of the logarithms of barbital sodium blood levels obtained in six dogs, kept alternately at 15°C room temperature and 30°C room temperature, after an i.v. injection of 150 mg/kg barbital sodium, showed no significant difference at the two temperatures for the slope functions or for the intersection point with the time.
